“If you are working with just coders, it is a lot of work. You often have to explain every requirement too much. We did not have that when working with Softjourn!” J. Michael Bradley, President & Founder — CentreBack Payments

Issue: CentreBack Payments provides payment profitability solutions for card-not-present recurring billing merchants. The company’s suite of solutions includes payment recovery, transaction load balancing, fraud optimization, and a highly scalable analytical platform to reconcile and manage payment activity.

Today, Card Not Present Merchants utilizing automated recurring billing (ARB) platforms suffer from payment decline rates ranging 10—20% of their subscription base due to a variety of factors. Currently many merchants use their own internal “re-try” logic when an attempted authorization fails. However, CentreBack’s clients stressed the need for a more repeatable, quantifiable and strategic approach to managing payment recovery — a key component in managing the entire lifecycle of a customer. CentreBack provides a recovery platform that: increases the ability of firms to automatically recover failed payments, seamlessly integrates into automated customer contact solutions, and identifies sales channels and/or campaigns which lead to higher decline rates.

Solution: The solution was to develop an automated Payment Recovery Platform called Revenue Patrol. Revenue Patrol is designed to increase a merchant’s authorization success rate by 25%.

In order to develop the Revenue Patrol solution, time was spent to determine the appropriate platform. The salesforce.com platform was initially reviewed by Softjourn and CentreBack and was rejected. In the end the decision was made to develop the new technology enabled service in Java which would make it much more portable across platforms and give CentreBack more flexibility with the application.

Softjourn’s objectives were “end-to-end” from design, development, testing and deployment of the Revenue Patrol application. One of the key requirements of the platform is that Softjourn develop in accordance with PCI Data Security Standards for payment applications. Security features include encryption configuration for credit card fields, gateway configurations, removing private data from completed or hard failed transactions. Softjourn delivered an easy to use business-user interface, an integrated analytics package, and a sophisticated rules engine to support complex business processes associated with exception management for payment. Softjourn ensured that Revenue Patrol can call out to third party contact systems, such as text messaging, emails, or IVR solutions.

The project development process and governance included mandatory weekly meetings for review of status, answering questions and solving any issues.

“I felt like there was a much more professional approach, distance did not become an issue, really the team understood the goals of the project. A lot more collaboration rather than a one way push of here is what you need to do, ” stated Mike Bradley.

Result: The Revenue Patrol application is a new service currently in beta testing. Upon completion of the beta, the service will be rolled out to the next group of sizeable clients and released to full production.

“We are very excited about what we have been doing with you guys! ” J. Michael Bradley, President & Founder — CentreBack Payments
