Windows Phone 7 app for a European Broadcasting company

Issue:

Recently Softjourn assisted a German consulting firm to develop a Windows Phone 7 app for a European Broadcasting company, enabling mobile access to media content. Prior to Windows Phone 7 app, other mobile apps had already been created. The first one was for the iPhone, which was a good start, and became very popular among users. After that other mobile apps were developed for: iPad, Symbian, Android, and BlackBerry. What was lacking was a Phone 7 version to cover all smartphone platforms, and here Softjourn was able to help.
Solution:
The initial request was to create an application that would have the same functionality and look and feel as the iPad version. The timeline for the project was rather tight. The development was divided into 2 phases. After 4 weeks of development the team had to come up with an alpha version and after two more weeks, version 1.0 had to go live on the Microsoft Marketplace. During the second phase additional functionality such as banners, a tracking system and news search were also implemented.
Result:
The Windows Phone7 app gives users a great experience whether they are reading news stories, viewing videos, looking through picture galleries, checking the weather or scanning stock information.
It also tracks the number of click-through links, shows the most popular news stories, as well as it lets users save news stories on their mobile device for viewing later in an offline mode.
After the first two days on the marketplace the application was downloaded more than 2000 times. About a month after publishing, the app was listed in the top 5 of downloads on the marketplace. A great result!
